Senior Network Engineer (Cisco) Job - Kingston upon Thames

Our client is a leading, global Business Process Outsource services provider which works with Fortune 500 clients and other major customers across all sectors. Their global growth allows continued investment in their IT infrastructure to ensure robust, cost effective and innovative solutions, both internally and to their global clients.

They are now looking for a Senior Network Engineer / Analyst to manage their networks across six UK sites, providing proactive management to optimise QoS of their LAN/WAN infrastructure and associated network security, in a highly demanding environment.

You must be able to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of Cisco Pix or ASA firewalls (preferably Checkpoint also) and have extensive practical experience implementing and troubleshooting associated VPN’s, Routers, Switches, VLAN’s etc and working with MPLS technologies, in both a Windows and Linux environment. Virtualisation and Storage skills would be desirable also.

Whilst Cisco certification is not essential you will need to be able to demonstrate technical knowledge to at least CCNA level, and ideally CCNP level, which will be assessed through the selection process, along with proven expertise in data and network security, ideally including experience working to ISO27001 (and certainly more than just making rule changes, configuring access lists etc) and a thorough knowledge of relevant Internet and Communications Protocols.

Our client is looking for a candidate that has the requisite experience to recommend and implement Best Practice across their networks, including, critically, their documentation, network diagrams and where necessary establishing new process and procedures eg for change requests.

Other duties are likely to include network design, making ongoing improvements to the networks, liaising with third party suppliers and support companies, performance tuning and capacity planning, implementing the very best network security measures and on occasion acting as Subject Matter Expert on selected client projects.

Flexibility is required as you will be the 3rd (final) point of contact / escalation in relation to their networks and there will also be some occasional travel to other key sites throughout the South of England (mostly Home Counties). Accordingly they are happy for you to work from home on occasions, as suits both parties.

Preference may be shown to those with degrees, but demonstrable experience and knowledge trumps all.
